The Purpose
The Show Me Readers Award promotes literature, literacy, and reading in
Missouri elementary schools for grades 1 through 3, and recognizes authors and
illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri children in these grades.
A Brief History
The Show Me Readers Award is a children’s choice award selected by
early elementary school children of Missouri. A list of ten quality titles is
presented as nominees for the children to read. Students may begin reading as
soon as the list is published in March. The following March, students in grades
one through three will vote for the book they like best. The tally will be sent to
the Missouri Association of School Librarians Office.
